Currently, library resources are no longer limited to traditional materials (printed books), but also include institutional digital content and licensed electronic resources acquired from various providers. Given this reality, the major challenge for libraries today is to offer a tool that allows users to search and access all available resources through a single search box, with results displayed on one unified interface.
EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) is an effective discovery tool that connects users to all of the library's resources—including bibliographic databases, digitized collections, and electronic databases—via a single search interface. As of now, EDS is used by more than 8,000 libraries worldwide. The architecture of a centralized discovery system in general, and EDS in particular, consists of the following components:Information sources created by the library; Open educational resources; Licensed content from publishers and information providers; A Central Indexing Layer; A Discovery/Access Layer.
As part of the project “Developing a Shared Electronic Library for Vietnamese Higher Education Institutions in the Fields of Economics, Business, and Management,” on May 24, 2022, the Library of Ho Chi Minh University of Banking, along with other member libraries, participated in a training session and technology handover for the EBSCO Discovery Service centralized search system.
