TRAINING
OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR LEARNING, TEACHING AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHING
On October 25, 2017, the Vietnamese Library Association of Southern Academic Libraries, in collaboration with the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, organized a workshop on the “Open Educational Resources for learning, teaching and scientific researching”. The workshop welcomed over 100 attendances from 52 libraries of Universities and Colleges in the Southern Area. The workshop was proudly sponsored by IDT Vietnam JSC, Hiendai Software Company and Nam Hoang Company Limited.
Open Educational Resources (OER) is a new concept that is not easily applicable to normal life, especially in the current Vietnamese educational condition. With the objectives to promote community knowledges, any authors registering to the system could directly contribute to the databases for learning, teaching and researching purposes. The OER will greatly contribute to the provisioning of the referencing syllabus for future implementation to the undergraduate credit studies.
Mr Le Trung Nghia, Senior Lecturer at the National Center for Research and Development of the Open Technologies (RODT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology. During the workshop, Mr Nghia delivered a presentation titled “ The role of libraries in establishing the database and taking part in the open source society for better serving people’s learning desires”, with concentrations in Introductions to the open-source education, basic skills for open-source manipulations, licensed practices in employing the OER. Attendances later have some discussions about these invaluable resources.
The one-day workshop concluded successfully, with useful information on necessary skills for recognizing, collating, establishing, introducing and popularizing the open-source educational resources. This is a chance for librarians to improve their knowledge, contributing to the development and evolution of the library to satisfy broader needs of readers.
